Ian S asked:
Long story short, there was a black scuff on the bumper coming out of the trunk (I believe it was from my hockey bag) that was not deep. They said they wanted $480 to repair it. Funny enough, my insurance deductible is $500. They said they need to re-paint the entire bumper. I think they are pulling a fast one and are splitting the money with the auto shop they are dealing with. I am 90% sure they could use a rubbing compound to remove the scuff. What options do I have in this case? They said the money included a one day rental charge.
I have no idea where to begin. My insurance company told me it is up to me as it is under $500….lots of help from them!
Thanks!
A little more info for you:
I was in a hurry when I left the car…clearly my own fault…that is not the issue. Where the red flag for me is going off is this….the company, which is small not a major rental place, calls me and says “the cost will be $750 to fix but I told the repair guy that was too much and he knocked it down to $425, plus the one day down time on the car….comes to $480.”
It maybe paranoid but the fact that he said that and the price is just under my deductible makes me believe they don’t want the insurance company involved as they would want to investigate and see the car could be fixed with rubbing compound. Getting my own quote would cost a days rental probably, so maybe in the long run, I should **** it up and not make that mistake again! Thanks.

The repairs are 1500 you pay 500 the insurance pays 1000.
The repairs example if the 500 deductible means it is deducted from the total cost above the first 500 the first 500 the insurance pays 1000.
The cost above the repairs example if the 500 the insurance company will pay for the total cost above the 500 deductible means you lose sorry deductable means it is deducted from the 500 worth.

Tell them you want to obtain your own repair estimate. If you must pay, then you have that right.
