Sarah asked: I would like to know if this is normal business practice or a rip off. I booked a car through expedia for 5 days for 120 dollars. At Phoenix airport the clerk said I had to buy insurance at 50 dollars per day. I said that my insurance covered me to drive a rental car and he said ‘well we don’t know that, all policies are different’ but that he could perhaps cancel ’some’ of the 50 dollar a day insurance. He ended up saying that the best he could do for me would be 440 including taxes and insurance (I had expected to pay 120 plus tax). Then, when I returned the rental car the tank was half empty and they said they would fill it up and charge my credit card at the rate of 6.67 a gallon! How can they justify this? You don’t have time to argue when you have a plane to catch. Shouldn’t they tell you in advance that if you don’t bring it back full they will charge you 6.67 a gallon? This was my first time renting a car so I want to know if this is normal or if I’ve been scammed.
and I didn’t even mention that the car was a piece of C . . . .
and it was a name brand company, it was Dollar
