guess55 asked:
we’re planning to borrowing one of the friend’s dad’s MINIVAN (for a roadtrip 7 ppl), he has no alternative car to drive.
so we’re going to ask him to rent a compact car to drive for a week while we’re gone on the trip.

-he has Statefarm insurance. (not sure full coverage or not)
-he will rent a compact car from a rental company
-he will sign/pay for the car
so what COULD happen if the dad gets in an accident? (thinking of the worst case scenario)
will his insurance rates go up?
will he have to go through a huge painful process (compared to being in an accident with his own car)?
if you have any other recommendations please advise me
but PLEASEE tell me what could happen
no “check with your insurance company”, “ask the rental company” i have asked… the will not give me a full answer!

If you rent a car, purchase their daily collision insurance…it’s well worth it…believe me…I wrecked a rental vehicle last winter.

The rates will definetly go up and make sure he gets the only bad thing would be in the best case scenario car crash that the rates go up and if anything happens the only bad thing would be in the rental insurance rates will definetly go up.

I have rented numerous times this year…I was told that you should not get the rental insurance and that unless it is a multiple car catastrophe, your own car insurer, like state farm will pay for damages. Hope this helps. Happy Holidays!
